Our haircare routine begins with something that seems as simple as a good wash. Do you know how to do it correctly? We don’t always know!

Actually, the issue of hair washing is something very personal and that we do automatically or as our family taught us, or perhaps we have worried about the type of shampoo and conditioner we use, but have you ever wondered if you are washing hair as you should? Don’t worry if you don’t, today we’ll learn more about it.

Can I be washing my hair wrong? Maybe! And that can result in damaging your hair or scalp.

What to do to wash my hair right?

Although we do not like to pigeonhole ourselves as good or bad, in this case, we want you to discover how small details can make a big difference … or damage your hair.

There is not much talk about the correct washing of the hair, and although you can choose a wonderful treatment, you should also think about what you will do with that treatment and how you will apply it to the scalp. Depending on that you can have better results.

Ready to get started? Here we go!

#1. Choose the right shampoo for your hair type

As you can imagine, each hair is different and has different needs. Therefore, the same thing that works for you, maybe it does not work for your best friend or vice versa. Probably over the years, you have been discovering what works for you and what does not.

If you already know what your hair type is, then you understand what type of product you should use. If you do not know very well what your hair type is, we recommend you to consult a professional (such as your stylist).

Remember that at Maka we have different options such as our oil control shampoo and the moisturizing line.

#2. Before washing, rinse with warm water

Perfect. You already know what your hair type is, you chose the perfect product for it and you are in your shower or about to wash it. The first thing you should do is rinse well with water before applying the shampoo. It is recommended that the water is warm so that you open the pores and loosen the excess oil.

When our hair is very wet we achieve that our cuticles are open, also that the product makes more foam and can spread better (plus: you can use less product by rinsing well).

#3. Use the shampoo just on the scalp

Perhaps you had not read it before, but when we wash our hair with shampoo, it is best to apply it only to your scalp, not to the ends.

Why? Because when we apply the shampoo to our scalp we are already washing the ends, so we do not need to scrub them. If you want to give some love to your ends, remember that you can always use a hydrating mask from the middle of your hair and up to them.

#4. Wash the hydrating mask with cold water

Contrary to what we do when applying shampoo when we use the hydrating mask the most recommended is to remove it with cold water to be able to close the cuticles and retain moisture.

#5. Avoid washing every day

We know that every lifestyle is completely different, and sometimes you feel like washing your hair more often than others. That is completely fine! However, we do not want to stop telling you that it is not so advisable to wash your hair every day because you can strip it of its natural oils.

Our advice? Always do what is best for you!

Now that you’ve read all of our tips, then you’re more than ready for the perfect wash. We repeat: each hair is a world, so always do what gives you the best results.

Love,

Maka.
