Every hair is a world… Literally!
There are curly, straight, dry, hydrated, long, short, with dye and without it. Anyways, the possibilities are endless and it all depends on the personality of each one of us, don’t you think?
Among all these hair shapes, there is one that is not so easy to treat: thin hair. Maybe you’ve had a friend tell you that her hair is like that and that’s why it’s tangled more than it should be or that it doesn’t look voluminous.
This type of hair is a reality, and instead of focusing on what’s wrong with it, let’s focus on the positive and how we can make the most out of it. Trust us on this: when we take good care of our hair, it doesn’t matter so much what it looks like, but how it looks on a day-to-day basis.
What is thin hair?
It’s a type of hair that differs from normal hair due to its thinner structure; it’s also said to be prone to split ends, so it’s going to need more care to avoid that.
Experts say that a good way to know if your hair is thin is to pay attention to how long it takes to dry after wetting it: if it dries very quickly, you probably have it.
Important: thin hair doesn’t mean you have less hair than someone else, it means that the thickness of your hair is thinner than we usually get. And there are many recommendations on what style to wear it with, but that’s entirely up to you.
What to do if I have this type of hair?
“Okay, fine, I know I have thin hair, what should I do now?
This is a very good question, and the first thing we would recommend is not to be alarmed or think you have a problem. As we told you before, any type of hair looks wonderful with the right care, so what you need to do is pay attention to the products you use on a daily basis.
Here are some tips on what you should (and shouldn’t) do:
#1. Choose carefully the products you are going to use. This is our recommendation most of the time, but we promise you that when we start taking care of the products we use, everything changes for the better.
When we have this type of hair, it is advisable to choose products that are specially made for it and do not have salt, sulfate or parabens.
#2. Avoid flat ironing. As we always tell you, it is important to apply your thermal protector if you use a flat iron, blow dryer, or curling iron. With thin hair, using the iron too much can end up breaking it, so we recommend ironing in moderation.
#3. Doing dry cuts. If you’ve been to the salon you’ve had your hair cut while wet, right? For thin hair, cutting it without being wet is a good option to locate the places where the ends are more open and thus remove them more accurately.
#4. Play with the blow dryer to create volume. Reminder: use your thermal protector! Now yes: if you have thin hair, you’d like to add a little more volume, so take your blow dryer, set it on the lowest setting and use your hands as you run it in the direction your hair grows.
Plus: you can use dry shampoo to create volume too (no, it doesn’t matter if your hair is clean).
Ready to play with your hair? You bet! Dare to apply these tips and you’ll find that you’ll be even happier with your hair type. The most important thing is to give love to it.
