Summer is here! And with it, lots of sun, beach, sand and… Frizz. Yes, as you read, frizz. At this time of year, it’s normal for many of us to have to deal with it. So, although we love to have a completely natural look with beach waves, we must also be aware of this other situation.
What is frizz and what causes it?
Probably you’ve seen yourself comb your hair and a few unruly hairs come out. They don’t have a defined shape and can look messy. That’s frizz. The main reason it occurs is the lack of moisture, fatty acids, and proteins in our hair.
Specifically, in the summer, factors such as chlorine, salt water, sun rays, and heat can cause dryness and therefore frizz in our hair. Making us see these little uncontrolled strands that are only the result of humidity.
What can you do to treat frizz?
If you realize you have frizz, you’re probably wondering what you can do to treat or diminish it. Here are a few tips:
#1. Don’t over-brush
Have you ever found that your hair looks amazing, but you brush it and it fluffs up? This happens because combing can stimulate frizz, so when combing your dry hair, do it carefully and don’t overdo it so it doesn’t happen.
#2. Moisturizing will be VERY important
So if you don’t use a conditioner or moisturizing shampoo, now is a good time to start. Remember that frizz is caused by dryness, so starting to moisturize will be very important. Also, try not to over-wash your hair so it doesn’t dry out even more.
#3. Watch how you’re toweling!
Yes, something as simple as using a towel can make a BIG difference in tackling frizz. It is recommended not to roll it around the hair, but to pat it dry. Also, a good option could be to use a microfiber towel.
#4. Wash with cold water
Closing your hair wash with cold water will close the cuticle, which will leave you with less frizzy hair.
As you can see, we can make small changes to our routine to take better care of our hair and see results. It’s all about paying attention to those little details that will make a big difference.
Now you’re officially ready for summer and to say goodbye to frizz.
Love,
Maka.
