Somehow, everything in our body is connected. We are an incredible, interlocking system that communicates in some way. That’s why when we feel stress we might see our face break out, or when we are sad we feel a stomach ache. That’s precisely why: our body communicates!
And hair is no exception. Actually, it’s much more common than we think, but we don’t realize that hair loss or dryness could be related to something else happening to our body or our emotions.
So… Are my emotions affecting my hair?
As you can imagine, the answer is clear: yes!
We know that life can be full of ups and downs, complicated moments and situations that don’t allow us to feel completely at ease.
All these different situations in our life can make us feel anxiety, stress or sadness. When we feel this, it can indirectly affect our hair, so…
How could my emotions affect my hair?
First, stress. Yes, we have already seen in different articles how it can have a big impact on us. In the case of hair, stress from having suffered a loss, overwork, financial problems or difficult parenting situations (to name a few) can end up turning into a hormonal imbalance.
This hormonal imbalance affects our hair and causes it to fall out. That’s why in periods of high stress we may find that we lose more hair than normal, or even start to lose it.
What if I feel anxious, does my hair fall out too? Anxiety is not what directly causes hair loss, but what could cause it is the stress generated by being in certain situations that trigger anxiety and that are frequent.
Therefore, a good way to take care of your mental health and, at the same time, your hair, is to think about what is causing you so much stress or anxiety and work on it. In addition, you can do activities that allow you to distract yourself and that are an opportunity to share with yourself, for example: going to the park, reading, meditating or doing yoga.
Our recommendation: if you feel that you often have a feeling of stress or anxiety that does not seem to diminish, a good option is to seek professional help. This way you can work on your emotions and take care of your body and mind.
With love,
Maka.
