December celebrations are here, and we often associate them with saying goodbye to exercise, to our diet, or only focusing on others and not so much on ourselves.
And although these are moments to share with others, to have fun and relax, it is important that we do not leave ourselves aside, and that includes continuing to take care of our food, staying active, and giving ourselves all the self-love we need.
Yes, it is true: during these dates, it may be more difficult to eat healthy because we enjoy our favorite dishes, or maybe we go on a trip and it is complicated to have the time to exercise, but we recommend you to always think about yourself and take a moment to have you as a priority. What does that mean? Eating a balanced diet, making time for some physical activity and taking time for yourself.
We understand that we’re not used to giving ourselves self-love, especially around this time of year, but it’s important to remember that and turn it into healthy habits that our body and mind will thank in the future.
So…
What can I do to take care of myself and keep healthy habits during Christmas and New Year’s?
The secret is to pay attention to the details. Eating a piece of fruit, going for a walk, or taking a hot bath can make a big difference. The important thing is that you do not neglect it, because although we do not realize it, it is something that happens a lot.
Here are some tips:
#1. Stay balanced when eating
You don’t have to stay away from those delicious dishes you love and missed, or that you have to watch everyone else eat while you don’t, but try to be balanced. If you ate something not-so-healthy during the week, try to balance it by eating healthy the rest of the days. Secret: balance is EVERYTHING!
#2. Pay attention to how you feel
During these days there are thousands of celebrations, meetings and gatherings, but it’s totally okay if you don’t want to go. We are not used to saying no, and sometimes we know that we just don’t feel good or don’t feel like being in certain places, so remember to set limits so you can enjoy everything.
#3. Say YES to physical activity
Avoid thinking you have to spend 5 hours in the gym, just remember to do some physical activity to keep your body moving: go for a walk, run, do yoga. Choose your favorite, but choose.
#4. Take care of your sleep
Sleep is VERY important not only for our body but for our mind. Even if you are going to enjoy yourself, go to parties and have fun, remember that you need to rest to be able to carry all those plans you have with energy and not fail in the attempt. This way your mind will also rest and you will feel very fresh.
#5. Make time for yourself
Yes, being with our family is amazing, but so is sharing with ourselves. Don’t think that by being away from home or traveling you should neglect your me-time and self-love… It’s the opposite! Try new ways and plans that bring you closer to yourself and make you enjoy yourself.
As you see, it’s all about having a balance with yourself, your body and your mind. Once you achieve that, the rest falls into place.
We hope you have a happy holiday season and welcome the new year feeling healthy, happy and fulfilled.
Love,
Maka.
