We know that when it comes to hair, there are different problems we could face: it could be very dry, fall out, feel very greasy, or perhaps brittle. And among these problems, there is one that is quite noticeable and more common than we think: dandruff.

You may have noticed those little white spots on your hair and they could be uncomfortable. And even though we try to shake them out to get rid of them, we find that more and more keep coming out.

We understand that it can be frustrating to see our hair with dandruff, but today we want to explain where it comes from and how you can treat it so that it stops being one of your problems when it comes to hair. We want you to start by understanding that it’s normal and can happen to anyone.

What is dandruff?

It is a common disease that affects our scalp since adolescence. What it causes is that the skin itches and turns into flakes of dead skin, which are those little white dots that we can see on the hair. So, dandruff is just that: dead skin that can be bigger or smaller depending on each case.

Therefore, it is important that you go to a professional if you consider it because there are cases that require medication.

What causes dandruff?

Professionals point out that the most common cause of dandruff is seborrheic dermatitis or seborrhea.

In addition, there are other factors that can make us more sensitive to dandruff such as dryness in our scalp, as well as the use of some products that have ingredients that do not favor us.

It can also happen that by not washing our hair for many days, oils and cells accumulate on our scalp, which makes dandruff more visible as well, so we should pay attention to that.

How to treat dandruff?

Use an anti-dandruff shampoo. If you have already identified that you have dandruff, one way to start treating it is to use specific products to treat it and diminish it little by little. As we said before, depending on your situation, specific products may be prescribed.

Take care of your stress levels. Dandruff can also appear for emotional reasons, and stress is one of them. Stress can make our hair dry and itchy, which could end up causing dandruff. To reduce stress, we recommend activities such as meditation, yoga and breathing.

Increase your omega-3 intake. Omega-3 fatty acids have many functions in our body, and one of them is to control oil and moisture levels in the skin. That’s why having low omega-3 levels can cause dry scalp and dandruff.

Consume probiotics. They are a type of bacteria that benefits our health, and it is said that consuming them can reduce the level of dandruff.

Remember: dandruff is something that can happen to all of us for different reasons. And although we know it can be frustrating to see it, we recommend you take it easy and apply these tips so you can see the differences.

Everything is a process, and hair is no exception.

Love,

Maka.
