Have you ever heard of journaling? Maybe your bff or cousin started doing it and you’re curious, but don’t have much idea what it is or what it’s all about.

We want to tell you something: you should start doing it!

Besides being a great exercise to start your day and get organized, journaling has many benefits on a mental level, because when we write down our thoughts or feelings, it’s easier to see what’s going through our mind.

What is journaling?

It is a practice that has been around for many years (although we hear it more now) and consists of writing and keeping a record of what you think and feel every day. Just like when you were a kid and kept a journal, but even better!

The most beautiful part of journaling is that there are no rules to do it, because the experience is very personal and adapts to each person. You should not imitate anyone’s process but follow your own and enjoy it.

Since there is no exact way to do it, it can vary every day or month, and the most interesting thing is that you can personalize it as you want… Let’s get creative!

What can I write in my journal?

If you are just starting journaling, you may be wondering what things you can write or where to start, and here are some recommendations:

How to start journaling?

We already told you that there is no single way to do journaling, so the experience depends on each person, but we can give you some tips to stop postponing this experience and encourage you to make it part of your routine. It will only take you about ten minutes a day (or less).

Choose the modality that works best for you

Although most people do journaling by hand, there are other digital ways to do it. So you are free to choose the alternative that you like best and makes you feel good (only then can it become a long-term habit).

Write FOR YOU

We use to do everything thinking about what others will say and that stops us. In the case of journaling, don’t think of it as something that has to be perfect or that others will see, just think of it for yourself and enjoy the process. The important thing is that you enjoy it.

Be realistic

We always want to do EVERYTHING immediately, so we imagine ourselves writing thousands of pages a day, but the reality is different. Therefore, it is very important that you set realistic goals according to your capacity and availability. Remember: the most important thing is to enjoy the process, it is not a competition!

Create your own writing routine

There will be days when you will not feel motivated or inspired to write, and it is on those days when you should have a routine that encourages you to do it anyway. So include journaling in your schedule so you never miss a day.

Use your creativity

We already told you that there is no one way to do journaling and that’s the fun part, so look for inspiration on Pinterest or your social networks with colors, shapes and designs that you would like to see in your journal and apply them in your own way. Always thinking of you.

Self-love is also about taking time out of your day to think about how you feel and what’s going on in your head, so we recommend this daily practice that can help you meet your goals, get to know yourself and reduce anxiety.
