This year is about to end and some parts of the world get colder! And it is that, just as it happens with the heat, these extreme temperatures can cause damage to our hair if we do not take the necessary precautions.

Sometimes we can worry or get discouraged when we see that our hair does not feel the same as always, or that it looks as if it needs more than one hydration, but the first step to be able to help and avoid these moments in the future is to understand what happens to it, when you experience changes in temperature that you are not used to.

The most important thing is to understand what our hair is exposed to when it goes through very cold temperatures (or very hot): it dehydrates! And just as it can happen to you when you are very thirsty, your hair will feel that it is not giving its 100% because it has no way to do it. Therefore, it is very important that if you are going to expose yourself to the cold, you focus on your moisturizing treatments.

Now that we understand the cold, what happens with heating? Since my hair dries out in the low temperature, shouldn’t it return to normal with the heat? No! As we told you at the beginning, extreme temperatures tend to dehydrate our scalp, and if your hair is already dry, then it will be more noticeable.

But do not be alarmed: everything has a solution! So we are going to tell you how you can take care of your hair from the cold (or the heat):

#1. Use a humidifier

This is a secret that not many know, but today we want to share it with you. When we use the heating in our houses, the environment becomes very dry and also does our hair.

Therefore, the best thing you can do is counteract this effect and restore moisture to your space, and believe us when we say that your hair will end up thanking you very much.

#2. Don’t forget moisturizing products

Use treatments or products that have oils in their ingredients. A good option is our moisturizing line, and if you are going to use heat on your hair, do not forget to apply a good thermal protector, because we don’t want the damage to be double.

#3. Wear your favorite hats

This is a good time to take out of your closet those hats that you could never use, or buy those that you saw but did not dare to have for some reason or another.

The hats can work as an amazing part of our look, but they can also cover your hair from all the elements of the environment, protecting it from cold, dryness and breakage.

We recommend using hats made of materials such as silk or satin, since materials like wool or cotton can break your hair and that is precisely what we do not want.

#4. Lower the water temperature when bathing

It is true that steam can be a good for our hair and cold, but it is also true that hot water could eliminate moisture in it, making it brittle and more sensitive to breakage. Therefore, we recommend washing your hair with warm water and rinsing it with cold water.

#5. Avoid going out with wet hair

Did you know that wet hair is more prone to damage than dry hair? Yes! In fact, if you are in a cold climate and you leave your house with wet hair, it will most likely end up breaking or freezing (not recommended!). So if you have wet hair, better use a dryer before going out.

As you can see, each climate will require different measures on our part. It’s all about understanding our hair and giving it what it asks depending on the situation.

Remember: taking care of our hair is a way of taking care of ourselves, and giving ourselves love.
